Description
Kiger Mustangs, Discovered 1891
These stunning “mesteno” or unclaimed/wild horses are descendants of horses brought to the North American continent by Spanish explorers in the 1500s and are found in the Beatys Butte area of eastern Oregon. These compact, well muscled, agile, and intelligent horses are variations of bay, black, and roan. The dun, grulla, claybank, and red dun horses have unique primitive markings that include a dorsal stripe, zebra-like stripes on the upper legs, transverse striping over the upper shoulders, dark muzzles, dark outlines around the ears, and black points.
This Kiger Mustang History Mug is part of our Western series which includes many unique athletes and rodeo stars.
The biographical History Mugs were created to teach and inspire individuals to learn about our diverse and interesting history. The biographies were researched and written by history enthusiast, Robert Compton. He colorized most of the historic photos and images used on the mugs, which were originally black and white or sepia tone. The images and biographies are imprinted on mugs at his studio in rural Vermont.
