Description
In 2005, President George W. Bush nominated Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court. In 2006, he wrote his first opinion in the unanimous decision of Holmes v. South Carolina, in which South Carolina had violated the defendant’s right to present evidence that a third party had committed the crime. In 2020, when Alito voted to overturn Roe v. Wade, saying Roe “was egregiously wrong from the start.” According to the New Yorker, since the appointment of Amy Coney Barrett, Alito has become “the embodiment of a conservative majority that is ambitious and extreme,” overruling precedents from the 1960s and 70s. He is one of the Court’s most conservative justices.
