Description
Mary Brewster, the wife of William Brewster, gave birth to sons, Jonathan, Love, and Wrestling, and daughters, Patience and Fear. Love and Wrestling sailed on the Mayflower, but Jonathan, Patience, and Fear arrived later. Mary was one of only four women to survive until the “First Thanksgiving” in 1621. She died in 1627 at Plymouth at the age of about 60. Her husband, William, survived her, living another 17 years before his death.
The Mayflower
The Mayflower left England in September 1620 with 102 men, women and children bound for Virginia. After 65 days they arrived far north of their preferred destination. They created a government on arrival forming the Mayflower Compact, which stated the colonists would create “laws, ordinances, acts, constitutions, and offices…,” follow their Christian faith, work together for the common good, and be loyal subjects to King James.
This Mary Brewster history mug is part of our Mayflower history series which includes many of the notable figures who played major roles during this conflict.
The biographical History Mugs were created to teach and inspire individuals to learn about our diverse and interesting history. The biographies were researched and written by history enthusiast, Robert Compton. He colorized most of the historic photos and images used on the mugs, which were originally black and white or sepia tone. The images and biographies are imprinted on mugs at his studio in rural Vermont.
