Description
Al Gore was a congressman from Tennessee before being elected vice president in 1993 under President Bill Clinton. He was the Democratic nominee in the 2000 presidential election when Gore won the popular vote but lost in the contested Electoral College when the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Bush. Gore criticized President George W. Bush and Congress for the rush to war prior to the outbreak of hostilities in Iraq. Al Gore served in the Vietnam War even though he did not support that war. His college housemate, actor Tommy Lee Jones, recalls Gore saying, “If he found a fancy way of not going, someone else would have to go in this place.” Gore was recipient of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for his work on climate change, and his documentary An Inconvenient Truth won an Academy Award.

The biographical History Mugs were created to teach and inspire individuals to learn about our diverse and interesting history. The biographies were researched and written by history enthusiast, Robert Compton.
