Description

Earl Warren was a popular governor of California, before being nominated by Eisenhower for Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.  He was expected to be a conservative on economic and social issues, instead, he made rulings that transformed the country with liberal rulings in areas of desegregation and free speech.  Chief Justice Earl Warren wrote the majority opinion on Brown v. Board of Education and Miranda v. Arizona.  Warren was able to find grounds for unanimity among his colleagues on controversial cases.  The Court’s opinions brought great social change.  In 1963, he was appointed the chairman of the investigation into the assassination of President Kennedy.
