Description
Richard Nixon served in WWII, was elected to the U.S. House and Senate and was vice president under Eisenhower. As president he escalated U.S. involvement in Vietnam but ended military action there in 1973. His most notable achievement was the normalization of diplomatic relations with China. Richard Nixon initiated détente with the Soviet Union and signed the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty. Domestically, he favored transferring power from the federal level to the states, imposed wage and price controls and introduced legislation to reform health care and welfare. In 1973, his vice president, Spiro Agnew, resigned because of corruption. In 1974, Nixon resigned because of his involvement in the Watergate scandal.
This U.S. Vice President Richard Nixon History Mug is part of our U.S. Vice Presidents Series which includes all of the US Vice Presidents.
The biographical History Mugs were created to teach and inspire individuals to learn about our diverse and interesting history. The biographies were researched and written by history enthusiast, Robert Compton. He colorized most of the historic photos and images used on the mugs, which were originally black and white or sepia-tone.
