Description
The All of the Mayflower Passengers History Mug lists all of the people who traveled to the New World aboard the Mayflower. The codes next to their names indicate whether they were a member of the Leiden Congregation L, a servant of the Leiden Congregants LS, a Merchant Adventurer M, a Merchant Adventurer servant MS, or a member of the ship’s crew SC. An asterisk * indicates that they passed away during the first winter of 1620-1621.
The Mayflower
The Mayflower left England in September 1620 with 102 men, women, and children bound for Virginia. After 65 days, they arrived far north of their preferred destination. They created a government on arrival, forming the Mayflower Compact, which stated the colonists would create “laws, ordinances, acts, constitutions, and offices…,” follow their Christian faith, work together for the common good, and be loyal subjects to King James.
The biographical History Mugs were created to teach and inspire individuals to learn about our diverse and interesting history. The biographies were researched and written by history enthusiast Robert Compton. He colorized most of the historic photos and images used on the mugs, which were originally black-and-white or sepia-toned. The images and biographies are imprinted on mugs at his studio in rural Vermont.
