Resolved White was 5 when he came with his parents William and Susanna White. He had a brother Peregrine White who was born on board the Mayflower in Cape Cod Harbor. Peregrine White was the First European born to the Pilgrims in America. Resolved White’s father died and his mother married Edward Winslow in 1621. Resolved married Judith Vassall and had 8 children, William, John, Samuel, Resolved, Anna, Elizabeth, Josiah, and Susanna. Resolved was a soldier in the Philip’s War of 1676, and became a freeman in Salem in 1680.
The Mayflower left England in September 1620 with 102 men, women and children bound for Virginia. After 65 days they arrived far north of their preferred destination. They created a government on arrival forming the Mayflower Compact, which stated the colonists would create “laws, ordinances, acts, constitutions, and offices…,” follow their Christian faith, work together for the common good, and be loyal subjects to King James.
This Resolved White history mug is part of our Mayflower history series which includes many of the notable figures who played major roles during this conflict.
The biographical History Mugs were created to teach and inspire individuals to learn about our diverse and interesting history. The biographies were researched and written by history enthusiast, Robert Compton. He colorized most of the historic photos and images used on the mugs, which were originally black and white or sepia tone. The images and biographies are imprinted on mugs at his studio in rural Vermont.
