Charles Darwin became one of the most influential figures in human history. Darwin was a biologist, geologist, and naturalist. It was Darwin’s scientific theory that all living species descended over generations from common ancestors. He and Alfred Wallace presented the theory of a branching pattern of evolution, which was a result of what he called “natural selection.”
Darwin’s almost five-year voyage on the Beagle exposed him to a world of plants, animals and geologic formations. Those observations became the basis for his theories on evolution. His 1859 book, On the Origin of Species, was groundbreaking. It was followed by The Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex (1871), The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals (1872) and The Formation of Vegetable Mould through the Actions of Worms (1881).
Natural Selection is the process in which plants and animals that effectively changed and progressed to meet the shifting requirements of their natural habitat flourished, while those that failed to evolve and reproduce perished.
This Charles Darwin History Mug is part of our Science & Inventors series which includes many unique individuals who shaped our world through their actions.
The biographical History Mugs were created to teach and inspire individuals to learn about our diverse and interesting history. The biographies were researched and written by history enthusiast, Robert Compton. He colorized most of the historic photos and images used on the mugs, which were originally black and white or sepia tone. The images and biographies are imprinted on mugs at his studio in rural Vermont.
- Mugs are food and microwave safe.
- To preserve photographic quality we recommend hand washing.
