Description

A German-born theoretical physicist, Albert Einstein believed Newtonian mechanics was not sufficient to reconcile the laws of classical mechanics and those of the electromagnetic field.  This led him to develop his theory of relativity, one of the two pillars of modern physics along with quantum mechanics.

In 1921 Albert Einstein was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics.  His home seized and his books burned by the Nazis he moved to the U.S.A.  He alerted President Roosevelt to the Germans development of a new type of powerful bomb.  This warning resulted in the initiation of the Manhattan Project.  A pacifist, Einstein denounced using nuclear fission as a weapon.

This Albert Einstein History Mug is part of our Science & Inventors series which includes many unique individuals who shaped our world through their actions.

The biographical History Mugs were created to teach and inspire individuals to learn about our diverse and interesting history.  The biographies were researched and written by history enthusiast, Robert Compton.  He colorized most of the historic photos and images used on the mugs, which were originally black and white or sepia tone.  The images and biographies are imprinted on mugs at his studio in rural Vermont.
