Description
Kamala Harris is the daughter of an East Indian mother and a Jamaican father. She is a lawyer who began her career as the district attorney of San Francisco before being elected attorney general of California. In 2017, she was elected as a senator from California to the U.S. Congress and in 2021 as vice president on the ticket with Joe Biden. Harris is the first woman to ever hold the office of vice president. She advocated for healthcare reform, a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, and a ban on assault weapons. An opponent of the death penalty, she stated life imprisonment without parole is better and more cost-effective. She estimated the repeal of the death penalty would result in cost savings that could pay for thousands of additional police officers.
This U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris History Mug is part of our U.S. Vice Presidents Series which includes all of the US Vice Presidents.
The biographical History Mugs were created to teach and inspire individuals to learn about our diverse and interesting history. The biographies were researched and written by history enthusiast, Robert Compton. He colorized most of the historic photos and images used on the mugs, which were originally black and white or sepia-tone. The images and biographies are imprinted on mugs at his studio in rural Vermont.
